FTW

Best value at the delux level with tons of flexibility. Look into the Swan and Dolpphin restaurants and the child care services at the Swan and Dolphin used to offer two hours of free care for your kids if you dined at one of the restaurants.

BlueZoo was awesome and of course Shula's is Shula's.

We've stayed at Riverside twice now and it's by far the best moderate resort. The FQ section is nicer but it's not worth the extra $ for the time spent in the rooms.

I don't follow you. There's basically no difference between French Quarter and Riverside with respect to pricing.

Registration was crazy. All sold out in 20 minutes. Lots of stress of my shoulders now it's over though.

That's pretty much par for the course with a RunDisney event. What weekend is that?

I've heard nothing but good things about this place. Someday I'll make it over to the Swan & Dolphin.

That may be the case. I'm only going information provided by the Mrs. She said it was slightly higher when I asked about staying on that side last time. I just assumed the rooms were nicer. She handles all that mess. I just drive the truck down I-75.

Thanks for all the replies. I think we're set on the Orleans French Quarter.

Another question: if, for some reason the French Quarter doesn't work out, what would be another moderate resort we should look at? I want something that isn't too large (like the Allstars are) and something were riding the bus doesn't make me want to eat a bullet (like the Allstars do).

The moral of this story, always stay on the grounds if you can ad Disney. It makes the experience 100 x's better.

Absolutely. The only time I've not stayed at a Disney Resort was when we stayed at the Double Tree on the grounds, which was still a great experience.

It is very small. That poster is confused on a few things.

The poster is not confused. If you have small kids or strollers, being in the back of FQ is not easy simply based on its size. Getting on a crowded bus with strollers or small kids for FQ is like being at an All-Star Resort. FA is smaller than all the other Disney resorts, but that does not make it a small hotel. It has over one thousand rooms spread over multiple buildings.

Look at the map
LINK /

Go grab one of those outlier buildings with 2 or 3 kids and then evaluate the size. Riverside is a better hotel for getting kids and strollers in and off the bus. Also, stay away from the Caribbean Resort, if you get stuck on the 2nd floor, there are no elevators in many buildings. You will have to lug your strollers up and down the stairs.

If you have no kids or mobile kids and no strollers, Caribbean is a very cool resort.

I would say after Riverside, Coronado Springs is the best moderate. They have a great Mexican fast service area, its awsome.

There are only 4 true moderate resorts:
- Port Orleans French Quarter
- Port Orleans Riverside
- Caribbean Beach
- Coronado Springs

I've stayed at FQ and Caribbean Beach.....frick Caribbean beach. It's easily the largest of the moderates and the time wasted on circling the property on the bus loop is ridiculous. I've heard good things about Coronado Springs but it IS a convention resort. Not sure if that matters to you.

Also, Disney considers the Fort Wilderness Campground to be "moderate" level as well....not sure if you're open to staying in a cabin in the woods though.

What other resorts have you stayed at if you think FQ is big???

I can see what you're saying here in that Riverside's multiple bus stops can be closer to your room than the furthest reaches of FQ, but I would much rather walk to 1 stop than have to sit on a bus for multiple stops or wait for a bus that may be full by the time it reaches me.

Grand Floridian
Wilderness Lodge
All Star Sports and Movies
Riverside
French Quarter
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Fort Wilderness

Size is only relative to the location of your bus stop to your room and the number of tired kids you have to carry or drag at the end of the day.

I have stayed there with a child and brought a stroller on and off the bus. I was in one of the building at the back of the resort. It was extremely easy for me to get around there. It's a small resort by Disney standards. If you find it inconvenient and so massive, maybe you should try the HOJO out on International Boulevard.

The deluxe resorts you posted are all compact. GF is a bit bigger given the different buildings but nothing massive. FQ is still a smaller resort by Disney standards.

Da fuq did I just read? Your perception of the size may be relative, but the resort doesn't fricking morph if you're further away from the bus stop.

Again, I get that you prefer being closer to one of many bus stops at a resort like Riverside....but I've stayed at a resort like that once and fricking hated it. Give me the walk to the main building any day over sitting on a bus stop after stop.

Coronado does have less of a family feel then the other resorts due the convention factor. I think it is a little less vacation friendly.

Caribbean Beach is big, but if you request the right area, it's very manageable.

if you stay in Aruba you can still get standard room pricing but no matter what way the bus pulls in the resort you can get off early and don't have to ride all the way around.

Caribbean Beach gets a bad wrap because people don't know hot to navigate it and they stay on the bus the entire time but if you get off at the calypso Trading post you can walk to Aruba in a couple minutes and if the bus goes the other way you're one of the first two stops

Case in point.

Its not much more than .25 (4-5 min walk) from Old Port Royale to Aruba and no need to sit on the bus for the entire loop.

if the moderate price range is what you want and renting points is not an option, there is no problem with Caribbean Beach...you just need to know the lay of the land before you go to make things easier.

If you stay at Bay Lake, you're likely walking close to 1/4 mile if you use that bus service. Yacht & Beach Club or Boardwalk is probably close to the same.

The time on the bus and walk to/from the bus stop is relative to the stop that you use not the size of the resort.

The 1 time I did Caribbean Beach, we requested and got a room in Aruba for the very reason you mention. The grounds are great, the pool is awesome but I still hate that bus loop even having to only deal with half of it. You still have to deal with the potential wheelchair or ECV which add a lot of time on to the bus trip. I personally prefer resorts with only 1 stop. And, things may have changed since last time I was there but there was no discernible pattern to how the buses ran through the loop. I know you posted that map supposedly showing their routes, but that wasn't the case when I was there. Again, things can change.

You can get a standard room at French Quarter and have just about the same walk back to your room each night, BUT since there is only one bus stop you have no other options.

The perception that Caribbean Beach is too big so it means more time on the bus or a longer walk than French Quarter (because it's smaller and only has one bus) isn't actually true. It all depends on where you stay within each resort and how you use the busses.

Good...just wanted to make sure it wasn't during my trip in Oct. Those race weekends make the entire resort crazy.
