Been there, read all of the papers...the thing is that it's a non issue. The customer has it their head it's an issue but that's for a device with a different operating theory. What we have is inherently safe, but showing that with numbers is way difficult. Boss says just bound it conservatively...and that's what I'm struggling with. It's a dynamic situation and all of CFD models leave a gap to keep the mesh continuous...what I need IS that closing force.

I'm sure I didn't represent that eloquently.

ETA: 2nd week on the road, different project, and it's just getting to me. Suck it UP...

How many brake pads you and David Spade have to sell in order to keep the company afloat?

I deal with this type of stuff all the time. My blanket statement is "Tell me what you want in 10 words or less. You only have 10 words so make them count". Typically they will leave the room and say "I'll get back to you".

Folks that have no idea what they are talking about but should, speak in very abstract terms and have a tendency to use a lot of hand gestures. No joke. I see it daily. Your issue is you have a very poorly defined problem. YOU CAN NOT SOLVE A PROBLEM THAT YOU CAN'T DEFINE. What you have is a situation, not a problem. The situation is that the customer doesn't understand the theory of operation of the widget. Your boss wants you to provide a technically sound answer to their non-technical problem. They feel better because he doesn't have to tell them they are stupid, and you do all the work.

If you ever want to cut through the crap invoke the "10 words or less rule". It will do it every time.
