What do I need to record from my TV straight to my laptop?

I see it often with Youtube videos where people upload videos of themselves playing a video game. They obviously didn't record the screen with their cell phone. They were able to record straight from their TV in HD quality.
How would I do such a thing?
I'm switching from Dish Network to Comcast a week from today, and I have a couple things recorded that I'd like to keep, and I figured this would be the best way since you cannot transfer DVR recordings from one company to another.

I thought the current gen consoles had video capture capability for people to record their gameplay? I don't ever use it so I might be wrong, but I think my PS4 controller has a "share" button.

A TV Tuner card for your pc/laptop. You can run cable straight to the computer. Most of them are relatively cheap and have much better TV Guide/DVR interfaces. Technology has been around for years.
I had one like this. Worked well.
eta: I think i misunderstood you. good luck TV Capture. I'm lost on that .

There are a couple of things that I'd like to record from my TV and have the video save onto my laptop.
