Basketball is more important at the youth and college levels

Pros you've got to work under management and manage egos

Basketball coaches can't yell the 20 feet to the PG?

We should have a thread on which captain of the field has a harder job. NFL qb or MLB catcher and so on.

In-game coaching:

Coaching is most important in football by far.

Basketball is a distant 2nd.

Baseball is a distant 3rd. With baseball, there are pretty standard rules for the situation no matter who the manager is. About the only real decisions a manager has to make is when to change pitchers.

a lot of baseball coaching is done outside of the game... like adjustments to help get hitters out of slumps, tweaking a pitcher's mechanics, etc.

And with baseball there are constant adjustments of hitters to pitchers and vice versa

Good pitchers have a plan for each individual batter. A lot of that work is at the staff level rather than the manager himself.

They can. I think coaching in soccer is incredibly important because coaches have to get their tactical gameplan correct. They only have 3 subs and a 15 minute halftime with no timeouts in between to fix issues if they need to

Football requires coaches to process 22 moving parts on every single snap.

Basketball requires 10.

Baseball requires you not to fall asleep until you get somebody on base so you can make a few signals and try not to scratch your nuts.

I'm not sure how you can say it matters the least in basketball and then suggest hockey as a coaching-reliant sport.
