Here's her weapon. Can't tell much from the pic but I'm thinking it's a .380.
And also from the story....
A malfunctioning weapon is as bad or worse than having no weapon at all. This is why I prefer my revolver over any semi-auto.

Looks like an old Beretta Tomcat .32. Those typically jam.
