When did baseball tournaments start handing out rings instead of trophies?

I just found this out today. When the hell did this crap start?
I hope my kid's team (in 7 years or so) never wins a tournament. I'd hate to have to make him throw away a "championship" ring...

Rings are cheaper. Tournaments are money makers.

When the parents started taking it more serious than the kids.

Nothing like seeing a bunch of 7 year olds on facebook with their championship rings. Terrible. And just as terrible are the parents who post that shite.

Trophies are phallic symbols of male dominance and oppress women, transgenders, genderqueers, and feminists.
Rings are more appropriate, but they are still offensive to people born without digits.

Why would you make him throw it away? Crazy fricking loon. You're probably an anti vaccer?

Cause I got a really big team. And they need some really big rings. They need some really nice things.

Bring it to the Pawn Shop for some serious cash.

My kid got a participation trophy Saturday and has been thrilled ever since. Maybe there's something to this I've certainly argued against it

what are costs of said rings? Anything over $15 is ridiculous.

Once you get enough rings, you melt them down and have a trophy made from the rings. At least that's how the better little leagues roll.

My son has a few. Its been around since at least 2011 when he got his first from coming in runner up at a State Tournament. Now they give them at small local tournaments, it's pretty sad. Last week they won a tournament and he got a Tournament Champs T-shirt, he was happier with that than a ring.

Was this a "Grand Slam" tournament?

They should give championship belts
Posted on 3/7/16 at 11:28 am to ell_13
I dont understand why he'd throw it away?

Because everyone thinks their kid will be the next Cal Ripken Jr.

From a logistics standpoint.. Rings are much easier for the tournament directors to handle/transport and the same goes for the parents/kids.. much easier to put a couple of rings on the dresser than a trophies

Cool t shirts would be way more practical and better enjoyed by the kids, but snobbish parents wouldn't stoop to handing out something so mundane.
