Yes. 1) My family and myself would've been ashamed of me if I didn't go if I got drafted. 2) My country is calling on me to do a duty.
Eta: Also, what northshorebamaman said...id probably have volunteered anyway.

It depends, the first part of the war was much different on the Homefront than the last part.
Most everyone who was drafted went early on ('65-'67-ish) but deferments were easy to get for college boys and otherwise politically-connected folks.
Later ('68-'71) once the Draft Lottery went in, it was universal conscription for all whose number was chosen. The only alternative was to volunteer into some active duty branch of the service or do National Guard duty for several years while you were in college. The local draft board had to sign on to the Guard process and if you dropped out of school, you had to go active duty, I think.
My dates may be slightly wrong but the point is valid.

Yes. Looking back we should have hit that place with a Hiroshima/Nagasaki part II. Only way to win against those little underground tunneling fricks.

Dinner table discussion circa 1969. Me "if I get drafted, what if I would go to Canada ". Dad (WW2 vet) "I'll buy your ticket ". In other words "GTFO"

I am an only son. Wouldn't have been drafted. If I was (could) is go. Probably would not willingly sign up.

I would have gone because I WAS a pussy. 18 year olds are easy game for manipulation and induction. Didn't have the guts nor the know-how to say no to the government and take off for Canada. Nor the connections, like George W. Bush, to skip out and stay in this country without dire legal consequences.

f you were drafted would you have followed orders and dealt with it?
Probably. Most in their early 20's were looking for something to do and I have no reason to believe I'm different.

Would you instead have dodged the war by going to Canada or taken another escape route?
Highly unlikely.

Agreed.

Yea. I would have. Would have won if the U.S. Government would have wanted to. Had em reeling after Tet..

Woulda gone and kilt me some vietcong. No bravado, just couldn't live with myself for dodging.

Probably would've helped those poor souls had their country not collectively turned their backs on em. Good going Baby Boomers.

Yes, my father did three tours in the infantry the last two voluntary and he is the best man I know and wish I could meet his standard. I served and am proud of it.

Sorry all you people who said no hate America.
Spineless politicians depend on well meaning people like you to get involved with idiotic wars like Vietnam and Iraq

When Trump starts a war with China, we will all get our chance. Good news is byu is an advocate for war crimes, so we got that going for us.

I did 3 tours in Iraq, so I'm guessing, yes, I would have served.
