I just think the games are more complex and the stakes are higher for non-mobile platforms on an individual consumer level. I've bought IOS games for our 2nd generation iPad that don't run well enough to be enjoyable. The difference is I paid $1 for them (or they were free) so I don't care.

Think about the real world example of Shadow of Mordor. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions not only had inferior graphics, but they also got a dumbed down nemesis system which was the main thing that made that game unique and worth playing. That's a gameplay difference, not a graphical one.

And just so I'm clear, I had these same questions when the Steam boxes were being announced a couple of years ago.

That's also a completely different generation of games for a different platform. I believe the idea here is not to have a different generation, just update the current generation. Run the same games, just at different graphical fidelity. That is how I envision it.
