Certainly he is better now, but a huge difference was scheme. The Hornets asked Rolo to attack high PnR. In PDX he rarely left the paint and was a legit rim protector.

And I agree that he wasn't seen as a long term answer. Same time, he was a reasonable 5 on a VERY cheap deal. They sent him out for another expensive, ball dominant guard and did not have anything approaching a replacement for Lopez lined up. After swearing Davis was a 4, they dumped their 5 and rolled with Steimsma/Smith. We all knew that was trouble, regardless of how we felt about Lopez.

That would have been the summer to move Anderson, if he were always a trade chip.

I do think Demps can be defended some based on Davis's unexpected growth on offense.

No one was seeing him as a 24ppg scorer, even after his excellent rookie year. His jumper had promise, yes. No one really expected his otherworldly touch and ability to finish awkwardly at volume. In that light, getting some more offense made some sense, in theory.
