Evans I never liked the acquisition and there is no way we ever were gonna get equal or greater value for him. not when the cost ultimately became 11 million in cap space, Robin Lopez, Greives Vasquez, and ultimately a mid first rounder to replace Lopez.

There's some revisionist history going on here. He didn't rebound that well or defend the high pick and roll in his one season here. Looking back, it seems obvious that the Vasquez/Roberts/Rivers trio along with the 28th/30th System that was almost solely to blame for it. In no way was he the center we saw in Portland that netted him a big time deal. Neither of the pieces given up in the Reke deal were seen as long term building blocks at the time.

Yeah the biggest issue was the redundancy that we created by having Holiday, Gordon, and Evans all on fairly large contracts. I think this was the thing that everyone had the most gripe over even back when we acquired Reke and it wound up being a major factor to why we're at the point we're at today.

A lot of people thought it was too much to give up to overpay Tyrec to not fit the roster. Sure, Derps didn't see Rolo as a key piece, but that's why he is Dell Derps. Rolo absolutely had his breakout year under Monty.

Certainly he is better now, but a huge difference was scheme. The Hornets asked Rolo to attack high PnR. In PDX he rarely left the paint and was a legit rim protector.

And I agree that he wasn't seen as a long term answer. Same time, he was a reasonable 5 on a VERY cheap deal. They sent him out for another expensive, ball dominant guard and did not have anything approaching a replacement for Lopez lined up. After swearing Davis was a 4, they dumped their 5 and rolled with Steimsma/Smith. We all knew that was trouble, regardless of how we felt about Lopez.

That would have been the summer to move Anderson, if he were always a trade chip.
