And there's a roller down the 3rd base line foul and that'll make the count FAIR BALL! TIGERS WIN!
That also happened last year.
As somebody who has done and taught this before, rule #1 is let the play happen before you call it, especially ON THE RADIO. You don't call a home run off the crack of the bat, no matter how good it sounded and how confident you are. You don't call a catch a catch until it's 100 percent certain. Not "pass complete for a first down DROPPED!" It's simple fundamentals you learn from day one.
One time back in the old days, our call was dropped right before opening kickoff and we missed a 90 yard kick return down to the 5 yard line. After we got service back, it was already 7-0. But I ran it as if it were live and went through the first 3 plays that they missed. Nobody knew better and we were caught up before they kicked off again. If you can do that, you can wait half a second before you call a fly ball that doesn't reach the warning track a home run.
