Mike Thevis used to have a fricking HUGE mansion in Atlanta. I remember as a kid thinking it was the biggest house I had ever seen. Evar.

Remember Thevis well. Did you actually represent him? If so, I bet that's an amazing story.

Yes. It was a longshot appeal after he'd been in prison for ages. I'm friends with his nephew (atty; worked with him) and son.

deal with a few in a business venture we're all partners in. meet a guy at an airport every 3 months to settle up. He comes in from Costa Rica then flies right back. Straight forward people as long as you don't cross them

Interesting. Is he still in the federal pen in Sandstone, Minn.?

Thevis was a fascinating character. I won't try but it would be pretty easy with the information you have to find out your identity. You might want to scratch that last post.

Would love to hear more about Thevis. Guy was without question a straight up gangster. Put the hit out on Underhill for turning state's evidence against him and then just up and escaped prison and offed the dude and his gangster bodyguard himself.

Underhill turned him in for (among other things) the killing of a man who had the nerve to ask for a raise.

Thevis at one time was the biggest pornographer in America.

little known obscure fact: he financed Oliver Stone's first big film and had another film about a fictional rape at the University of Georgia that had several big name actors in it such as Shelly Winters.

So how much do you pay them to run the operations of your book?

My girlfriend is half Sicilian from Nola and her grandpa was a "tomato salesman" who also ran the horse track and a barbershop in Mid City. Her mom told us that every Wednesday a guy came to drop off a briefcase in a Cadillac.

If you are in the restaurant industry in the FQ, you know the mob.

On a side note, ended up at a mob bar in Chicago last wknd and it was literally like being in a movie.

My father was pretty good friends with him... My childhood was quite a strange one. Everyone I knew went off to college growing up in their 40s

The mob is now a broken organization and a shadow of what they once were in this country. It is still around but nothing like it was previously. Carols M was also around long before the 80s and his power was waning at that point.
