Nofox posted that he heard Dumars was helping as a draft consultant. If that's true I've been trying to figure out if that means Demps has a new boss or firing Demps is already decided but Joe isn't taking his place. I guessing it's the latter, otherwise they'd just make it official and announce Joe as whatever his title would be.

I do have a minor source in the Pelicans, not on the operations side though. He did indicate Dumars was being consulted. My impression was that if Dell is not let go that Dumars would be consulted with respect to the draft, but that his current role was as a consultant to help Loomis provide proper oversight for Dell since Loomis is not a basketball guy.
The reports from Lowe today indicate to me that other teams feel that Dell is not only restricted from trading our current 1st which I am not sure he would want to anyhow, but also that he is also being restricted from trading future firsts (even if heavily protected). This suggests to me that Dell is being prevented from mortgaging future assets so as not to tie the hands of a future GM.
I agree with TIgerinATL in that if the new GM were going to be Dumars, that change would have occurred. My personal speculation is that they are not firing Dell because they don't want to deal with the PR and logistical mess of having no GM (like the Nets) during the season. I think they will continue to use Dumars as a consultant to help oversee Demps until they fire Demps. The firing of Demps likely depends on his contract.
I do not think Demps is operating with the full autonomy of most GM's. He is being micromanaged after he failed. And his philosophy towards draft picks seems to have been abandoned (likely involuntarily).
