Connecting device to closest access point

I'm on my LG 4 phone and sitting diretly next to my main router. When I am not connected to my WiFi, it shows full strength (as it should since I'm right next to it). But once I connect, I get 1 bar, so I'm assuming it's connecting to the other access point across my house. Is there any way to direct it to the closest one?

Give them different names so you know which one you're selecting.

I had the same problem with access point on top floor and another in the basement.
Like the other poster said, give one of them a different SSID. I've found that my cell phone will usually switch to best one automatically as I move around the house.
It's even better for other devices that don't move like printer, tvs, etc and you can make sure that it connects to closest/better access point.
