Size isn't the issue. La. has no smallmouth bass.

I know their range, but this had smallmouth coloring and a small mouth. Maybe they stocked them back then, idk.

Not a native year round species and certainly not in the LSU lakes. I've heard of a few caught in an oxbow under the Huey Long Bridge in Harahan. Only when the river is very high and cold in the spring.
It is possible, just like a few snook have been caught out of Venice.
