Sounds logical... Replace a quarterback that threw for 31 TDs and led his team to their second-highest win total in the last decade. There is absolutely no incentive for the NYJ to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick for Colin Kaepernick.

Hey I LOVE the bearded wonder and he did great last year... But why sign Kap where the money could go somewhere else more useful... They also have Smith as the back-up....

Geno Smith isn't an NFL level player. He's only there because they haven't gotten around to replacing him.

Fitzpatrick isn't under contract. He's 33. The Jets can't afford a franchise tag. They're only 10m under the cap and their rookie pool will cost 6m+. There are a ton of teams with room under the cap this year and they might not be able to afford to keep him.

People are high on Fitz because they like him. But he's not that great to just laugh off Kaepernick without question. The 49ers offense (especially the line and the coaching) was dogshit both with and without Kaepernick last year. Yet Fitz was only 10 points better in passer rating, and they completed about the same percentage of passes, but Kaepernick played in the NFC West in his worst season.

I know it's cool to hate on Kaepernick and say things like "the zone read has been figured out, he was just a running back who threw the ball, everyone needs to have a pocket passer and nothing else should be allowed", but you have to consider that this move would make sense for the jets for multiple reasons. In particular, Kaepernick's contract is actually one of the lowest for any QB on his second or third deal, he's much younger and he's got a ton of upside because of his legs.

you are right, there is no sane reason the Jets take on that contract

2016= $13,425,000
2017= $16,900,000
2018= $17,400,000
2019= $21,200,000
