American Pie was a cultural phenomenon at the time, but I think Can't Hardly Wait is the better movie and more "'90s". This is coming form someone who grew up then.

However, the best teen movie of the '90s, although it was set in the '70s, was Dazed and Confused. I don't think it did the box office that either Can't Hardly Wait or American Pie did, and it wasn't a phenomenon in the broader culture, but among people who grew up in the '90s, at least where I did, it was a staple. We wore the VHS, and later the DVD out. Copied as much of their language and style and aspirations (or lack thereof) as we could.

can't really compare dazed and confused to AP and CHW because D&C is set in the 70s. I agree that CHW is a better movie than AP and probably more representative of the teenage experience in the 90s. AP is is more of a raunchy comedy.
