Building your own workshop

Brainstorming here.. Looking for opinions and experience.
In a year or so I am gonna be looking into putting a workshop on the land. I want to do as much as possible myself. I won't be in a rush, so saving money is the goal here. The idea is to build (approximately) a 30x40 workshop with a 12 ft leanto for boat and 4 wheeler storage. Steel seems the way to go, and I'd also be looking to insulate all or part of it.
What I want to use all the space for... I'd like to put a kitchen and have a fair amount of space dedicated to entertaining. I've been dabbling with some wood working, but I want to make it a serious hobby. Soo, a good portion of the workshop would be used for projects. Also I just want space to store all my stuff...
Some pictures of what I'm thinking..

Best advice in this thread: double the projected size of your shop and add lean-to on each side.
All other advice is from inexperienced builders

These days, steel is the way to go. You can buy full kits that are prefabed. But you will need equipment to lift beams.
Woodworking inside, install a dust collecting system.
Once I get close to finishing my camp, I will be building a barn/shop/sawmill housing. It will be a timber frame building. Already started the dirt work for the foundation.
So, if you have time, start your dirt work that way it will pack down real good for your foundation.

Hey BP. How you and your family doing?

BP... Increasing size is definitely an option but doubling?! I'd go broke trying to fill it up.
Yeah, researching has netted me these conclusions. Will be curious as to how much I'd end up spending on rentals.
Yeah in a couple months I'll be working on a driveway and pad. Maybe towards the end of the year pouring the slab, and maybe next summer I'll begin construction.

Compare the cost of adding more sf on original level compared to increasing building height and adding a second floor in a portion of the building. Also increase the lean-To from 12' to at least 20' and have the ability to add lean-to on all sides in the future

One never has enough space. Really.

Building a shop is much like a boat... you always want a bigger one and rarely do you want one smaller.

I've got a 25'x60' with a 14' overhang on the front kinda like your first picture. I think it would be plenty big enough for what you are wanting. The rear portion of mine is enclosed with a 16' x 25' man cave. That leaves me plenty of room for building projects in the main shop part. I need to add a lean to down one side of mine though.

Any recommendations on a reputable dealer. I'm about 30 mins west of BR, so anything within a couple hours ride.

I'm talking plenty of shop/building room. One can never have enough shed space to park shite under

You're going to want an overhang like the first pic, and at least one lean-to like the second pic

Mueller, Hwy 415 exit on I-10 Port Allen. The only "equipment" the guy that put my 30 by 40 up with was a hand crank lift to lift up beams.

pole barn style with prefab trusses will be cheaper than steel and you can do it yourself

This is what I'm rolling with. You have experience with it cgrand?

I do
I'll post a pic later
I built 20x32 with two 10x32 wings
6x6 posts, double 2x12 beams and prefab roof trusses
did everything myself, by myself
I didn't pour a slab but i did set the posts in grade beams just to be safe

My research has shown me that the more room you have, the more shite you put in it

That's awesome. Very similar to what I'm looking to do. I'll also be doing it all myself with assistance from dad. Would definitely like to see pics

Appreciate all the responses. Just about to head into work, so I'll have some more questions pop up in the middle of the night.
