"I would like to introduce you to a teenager named Sam. When he was offered a position to work at Starbucks Sam told his parents that his life had meaning. Sam was diagnosed with autism and with a movement disorder. Sam never thought he would be able to work behind the bar but his manager Chris believed in him. They turned his movements into dance and now Sam is known as the dancing barista. More people like Sam need to be seen and heard."

This is the type of thing we need to be focusing on, not blacks crying because they aren't being given awards for something they get paid millions to do

with a movement disorder.
Seems like a dangerous thing to have around very hot liquids

Pretty cool, but what does this say about the state of humanity, not society, but humanity in that, in order to feel like his life had meaning Sam felt that he needed a job. It's amazing what humanity has evolved into. "To have meaning means to work" just sounds weird.
And I'm not knocking Sam, it's not his fault he feels that way. This is philosophical, not situational, in context.

It's true.
If a man doesn't work a man doesn't eat. That's the way I see it. A man's job is to provide for his family. If he isn't doing that when he's able bodied and able to, he isn't much of a man at all.

liberals wont like this because he wanted to work and works

Well said. It's a shame what people focus on.

My youngest brother and sister are both mentally challenged and still live with my parents. They are 27 and 29 and both have jobs(one bags groceries at Winn Dixie, the other works as a greeter at Wal Mart). Both love their jobs and it gives them something to do instead of just sitting at home all day. They also both like having their own spending money. Also.....since my family is poor....they are able to at least help out with bills such as cable or their phones or pay for their food.
I say good for his parents in wanting to instill a good work ethic in their son and not just be content to do nothing.
I would totally tip a lil extra if my barista made me smile by dancing while I waited for my drink fwiw.

See sig quote. I feel sorry for those whose career has become their identity. We've been programmed to be pawns

Yeah but for that kid.....he likely has many things that may not be a reality for him that seem like such normal, everyday things for others. So to have a job....that makes him feel more "normal". I can see why he said that would give him meaning.

How many black people were denied that job because of his white privilege? Think about that for a second...

Or it just makes him feel normal. He knows he's got a lot to overcome, but he knows he can do something. It's better than most. He has an income and can support himself (at least somewhat) without any special circumstances. It's not about a "job", but just a tiny bit of independence that actually puts him ahead of a lot of fully capable people.

He started to pour an empty cup into the drink he just made.
