In how many of those years did we return 19 starters from the previous year?

It helps but proves nothing. It proves NOTHING. Everyone recruits and other teams return lots of great players too. Have you noticed that we aren't the only team bringing back some guys? It's nice for a change but we would have to improve DRASTICALLY in all 3 phases to win the SEC much less the NC. I'll be pumped if I see it but I'm not delusional.

Instead of speaking in generalities, why don't you actually come out and break down what each division rival is returning in 2016? It might be educational for you because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

no, we just want to see adequate balance and unpredictability to keep the defense off-balance.

An effective passing game helps the run game, and vice versa. Really not too hard to understand.

the entire "return x starters" has always been a two-sided issue to me. Yes, if a returning starter is very good, that's a good thing. If he isn't, then having him return as a starter isn't so good, now is it.

For example, if Vandy or Kentucky returns a lot of players, is that really a good thing? If I'm a fan of a poor team, I'd rather hear about new recruits or transfers coming in and hope they're better that the returning guys. Playing with the same guys as last year is good, but only if those guys are good to start with.

And before you blow a gasket chilge, yes, guys can improve with experience, but within reason.

You mean like Pocic, Clapp, Teuhema, Fournette, Dupre, Key, Neal, Godchaux, Beckwith, White, Toliver, and Adams?

Every name on that list will be playing on Sundays in the near future as well as several more that weren't mentioned.

Jesus Christ are you serious with this?? This is just as obnoxious as the "nega tiger" stuff which is largely people just being realistic. What makes you think we become capable of winning the SEC or NC?? You have to be a college student or younger. I don't care who you support. I understand being optimistic but you are ignoring years of results. How's it gonna feel for you when we shite the bed again? That's just as viable of a question. Do you understand that? Are you going to revisit this thread. No you won't. They have to prove it. No one in the SEC that matters is afraid of LSU. Did Bama switch conferences??? Is Saban retired? Do you watch the games?? Do you understand football?? This is another delusional thread that makes us look like idiots. Clemson would have run us out of the building. Bama, ole piss, and Arky are laughing at this. We need to shut up and let results on the field do the talking. So much running off at the mouth. Just tired of it. If we win, it will be earned. Not until then.

If we are going off past years, Les has won the west 3 times. Not far fetched for him to do it again. And yeah Saban is still at bama, so essentially no coach will be good enough. So all you people wanting Les gone are settling for mediocrity as well because no coach LSU hires will be better than saban.

Syracuse scored more on Clemson than they did on LSU, but you arse hats aren't bitching about them not putting away shitty teams.

Lol, so returning guys that could play in the NFL isn't a good thing now?

So how did 13 turn out when LSU had to replace several starters on the defense? How did 14 turn out when LSU had to replace several starters on the offense?

I was talking generally about the "returning starter" issue, not just at LSU this year. Yes, our returning guys are good so we're looking good with all of our guys coming back.

Our returning QB is an issue though.

College football has constant roster turnover. Every team in the country has it every year.

Graduation, early NFL departures, transfers, academic casualties, injuries, etc. This is nothing new.

Coaches know this and must prepare for it, including unexpected departures. Recruiting and development of young guys to fill the voids. If there's too much of a gap from year to year, that's on the coaching staff.

There's really no negative to it. If a returning starter was productive last year, he'll likely be even more productive in the current year. If he wasn't productive last year, he'll get replaced by someone younger who will be productive.

Agree to disagree. He had a bad stretch of games where we were beaten down as a TEAM... but 2400 yards, 17 TDs and 6 INTs in 12 games on the season is a damn good season for a sophomore who's returning 95% of his receiving yardage in 2016.

I really think we're going to see another Russell/Bowe/Davis or Mettenberger/Landry/Beckham in 2016.

There was an obvious adjustment that had to be made when the NFL implemented the new CBA... so much so that the NFL, NCAA, and college players have all had to re-evaluate how to determine draft status.

You're making this too black-and-white. We essentially lost 3 recruiting classes in 2 years from 2012-13 and we're just now getting back to having quality depth after having so few players enter the draft in 2015 and 2016.

What you're speaking of is how we need to approach the 2017 season. It's an entirely different animal that what we've seen in recent years.
