Need a Humanity to graduate and found this class. Here's the slate:

Dark Knight
Rear Window
The Conversation
Zero Dark Thirty
Persepolis
Ex Machina
Inside Man
CitizenFour
Season 1 of The Wire
Fruitvale Station (Ryan Coogler)

What a slate! This teacher must know his shite. Only 1 dud on the list.

I haven't seen Persepolis, Fruitvale, or The Conversation, though. Thoughts?

Conversation is amazing. Frutivale is interesting. It doesn't entirely work, but I do like that they use the actual cell phone footage of the inciting incident, and built the drama off of that.

That is quite a list. "The Conversation" is 1 of the 4 great movies Coppola directed. Awesome movie. Like DePalma's "Blow Out", it pays homage to Michelangelo Antonioni's classic "Blow Up". Highly recommend checking out the other two if you watch "The Conversation".

I haven't seen Persepolis, but I did read the graphic novel. From the previews I remember, it seemed like they just animated the book to go from panel to panel. It wasn't anything great, but it did give an interesting in sight into life in Iran before and after the Islamic Revolution and Iran-Iraq War

How do kids nowadays get these movies for a class? I guess Netflix, but if they're not available? Do the teachers expect you to purchase the movies? Back in my day, we would just go to the local Blockbuster.

Fruitvale Station has to be one of the most overrated, overly-slobbered upon movies to come out this decade.

It's just a mediocre film done well. Not very interesting or entertaining.

Watched the opening sequence of the Conversation in a film class and subsequently found it on Netflix. Really, really enjoyed it. One of my favorites I've seen on Netflix.

I had to read and watch Persepolis back in 2009 and did not like it

I wish this was available at SELU when I was there. I had to take some crappy art history.

Solid list. I've seen all. You will love the conversation.

I'd be shocked if Revenant tops it as best of 2015

This. It won't. Revenant doesn't even make my top 5 of the year.

Honorable Mentions:
45 Years
Room
Revenant
(Still haven't seen Anomalisa)

From a technical standpoint (dir., dp, score) the Revenant was the best. It's damn near impossible to top what lubezki did especially. However, I feel that the love for the Revenant is following In the same vein as the love for boyhood last year, in that the praise is directed at the grandeur and scope of the project rather than the final product. But visually it's a stunning achievement.

I showed up for my required Lit 2 course. It turns out the "theme" for the class was romantic love. I think you won out. Though that class was in my dorm.
