Fassbender is probably deserving of it,
But just like The Academy, it's Leo's due this time.
Most Actors never won the award when they were supposed to, but the Academy would do the right thing down the road. That time is now.

Eddie Redmayne does not have enough Hollywood cred to win back-to-back best actor oscars (nor is he a one of a kind talent that makes back to back wins inevitable). If he wins again (with an ok performance in a not so great movie), it says a whole lot more about the Hollywood elite's personal views toward Leo D than it does about Redmayne's talent imo.
And I say this as a huge Eddie Redmayne fan who thinks he was totally robbed for not getting a best supporting actor nod for Les Mis.
