Yeah, I remember back when Titanic came out - people were asking, "why this little twerp?" opposite Winslet?
I knew Winslet would be huge after Heavenly Creatures just like Scarlett after Ghost World - but apart from a few Basketball Diary fans - Leo wasn't on the radar and Titanic really made his damn career from there - he blew up like crazy.

I don't think this is true either, in addition to basketball diaries he had already garnered a ton of praise for his performance in Gilbert grape. He was already a heart-throb for the MTV generation females so it's not like he was a nobody coming into titanic. Titanic did make him a mega-star, but to say he wasn't on the radar is asinine.
