ODESSA, Texas (Local 2 News)
One veteran asking local businesses to rethink open carry in their establishments.
Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder may be sensitive to certain triggers which remind them of life on the battle field.
For Art Leal, he wants people to know one trigger could be a gun. He explains now that the state passed open carry, some could suffer in silence.
"A lot of times the gun itself will stress the veteran," Leal said.
Experts say one in five veterans experience PTSD after the battlefield.
"They have rapid heart beat, they feel very anxious and can't function," Leal said.
Leal served in the U.S. Army for eight years, now he tells us he suffers from PTSD and explains weapons in plain sight could bring back undesirable memories.
"Many vets go into a restaurant and they're already on hyper alert," Leal said. "They'll sit at the furthest end of the room making sure they have a clear view of the exit."
Leal says combining a gun with their already uncomfortable feelings could negatively impact the vet.
"Adding an open carry individual; coming in the veteran doesn't know who they are or what their intentions are," Leal said.

He had to have those printed? so he wants to infringe on peoples rights so he feels comfortable?

Open carry doesn't mean people walking around pointing guns at you. This man needs help (which our country should be better at providing) if he sees a gun in a holster and that sets him off.

Exactly what I was thinking.
Some trans dirtbag who went on a couple of LOGPACS and maybe was in a convoy that got hit once with a little nothing bomb or claimed it because of a few instances of IDF on Victory or Balad.

I wouldn't bet on it. I have a buddy who served four tours in the sandbox as an infantryman with the 101st. He has PTSD bad and shite like this would get to him.

Those are like get out of jail free cards, right?
I could just be "triggered" by something and walk out without paying?

Yeah, I don't understand this. I think most Vets feel more comfortable around guns.

Imagine what would happen if he watched a movie, or went into a sporting goods store!

I am genuinely curious here. Open carry gets to him? What does he do at airports or other places where there is visibly, armed security?
I was an infantryman, and I have had my struggles as well. My experience is that people who pull these kind of stunts in the OP generally aren't the type that really care about open carry or anything of the sort. They're not attention whores, and they're too wrapped up in their own minds to get bothered about it, anyway.

How on earth did all the veterans From previous wars survive, for the most part, without such debilitating triggers?

So the guy is in his mid-40's (at least) and served maybe 96 hours total (at most) in combat in a motherfricking tank probably the entire time and he has issues with open carry?
Far be it for me to question his diagnosis, but he sounds like a total pussy on this.
