Ever feel like you should do more for your country? Feel a "calling" of sorts?

First off, I'm a veteran, was in the Navy 6 years, so I served my country. But now, as a 32 year old male, I feel like I could still contribute, whether it be in battle or some behind the scenes type stuff...
Was thinking about guys that are currently in harms way, most of these guys are dumbshits, no offense. If you've been in the military, you realize it is far from the best and brightest, typically is the guys who had no other options with the occasional smart fella sprinkled in.
I'm no genius, at all, but I'd say I'm smarter than your average person and feel at my age, 32, I still have a lot of valuable time left and would like to use some of it for the greater good. I have recently had a kid, he's 4 months old now, so that also kinda limits me...
But anyway, I'm trying to think of something constructive to do with my time, whether it be a new career or something to do on the side. I've thought about being a reserve sheriff, but my wife doesn't like the idea of a hurricane coming and me having to stay behind while her and the kid evacuate.
Anyone else think like this? Any suggestions?
TLDR, GFY

Aren't there vets that are using their own money to go back to the Middle East and fight Isis?
Just do that
Just do that

More than work and pay taxes to support the lazy ingrate bastard factories?
No, I'm doing plenty.

The navy brainwashed you for 6 years, and you think you are having a natural calling?

Here's your pat on the back.

Thanks for your service!
Did you choose a shite job in the USN that has no value outside of the military?

You could volunteer at the VA or something.

I thought the same thing before I got a good paying job.

Just figure out something you like to do, and find out a way to make it help others.

I did, and still do. I missed my chance, though. It was probably for the best, though.

You are only saying this because your current job doesn't pay you much

There's a meat packing plant in Colorado with a few openings. You were in the Navy after all.
