I hate to say it because I feel the same way, being an avid, over the top LSU fan, because that'd be awesome, but really aren't we being a little delusional here?

I don't think so. He's one of the better available
coaches out there, it doesn't do any harm to feel him out and gauge his interest.

is there a link to that? I find that very hard to believe unless the arse. coaches are in a administration type position, otherwise all they could do is hire from within. No decent HC takes a job that they aren't allowed to bring there own assisstants in. Yes, I remember the miles/jimbo deal which is also unusual, but that is one coach.

why not just wait and see if they do win it before committing to something like that?

The asst. coaches did get a 2 year contract. After this season they are only contracted for one more... compared to what the head coaches make... paying off the contracts of the asst. coaches for one year is nothing. As far as Carr taking an asst. athletic director job... that was just one of the guys on game day speculating that that's what will happen. There is not merit to that except that some ESPN guy thinks that would be a good idea.

I agree. They think Tressel would eat him alive. Ohio St. is pulling for it though.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, if so, I apologize.

But Coach Miles has a "Michigan Clause" in his contract. It states that LM cannot seek, nor accept employment from the University of Michigan. If he does leave us for Michigan, he has to pay LSU 1.25 million bucks.

Do you think he would still take the job if offered, given the stiff penalty???

hanaggriff and gordy were saying it'd have to be done right after the SECCG on their show the other day.

which is why I have said all along that Miles wont be the next HC at Michigan because the timing is not right for either side.

but also consider......
1) Miles sits quietly for 50 days and preps for the NCG

2) UM has no HC, just interviews and speculation

3) After the NCG Miles takes the UM job, UM eats a $1.25mm buyout

4) UM has to give Miles at least $2.5mm which is $1mm more than Carr (Miles price up to $3.75mm)

5) Miles would want his own asst coaches to clean out the Carr regime, so UM would have to eat another $1mm in asst coaches salaries plus hire all the new coaches for another $1mm (Miles price now up to $5.75mm for one year)

Is Miles that much of a slam dunk hire to them that he is worth waiting 50 days and spending almost $6mm?

I dont think so, and Miles would look like a complete idiot to walk away from a NC team one month before the NCG to take another job. he would be negative recruited forever by other teams if he did that.

In big-time athletics, that is not a stiff penalty. Michigan would come up with the payment, no problem.

My question is: Since Miles refuses to outright reject the Michigan position, if he is ultimately passed over, do LSU fans have a right to be pissed at him and want a coaching change?

It appears to me that Del Rio and Cowher would like to run the ball 75% of the time, play good defense, punt the ball, and hopefully win 17-13. The NFL is all about field position and making your opponent go 80 yards. Still needed in college but not as important. Probably would recruit well but the playbook appears very thin and predictable. Would take either one, but Callahan? Wanstadt? Groh? Carrol seems to be only recent success.

that is NOT stiff...1.2 is nothing compared to Tubby's buy out.

If Les leaves and I hope he doesn't then I think we should go after Spurrier. It was mentioned ealier in this thread that Tubberville had coveted the LSU job since his days at Ole Miss. I don't know about that but I do know that Spurrier applied for the LSU job and wanted it bad. Not hiring him then was a big mistake. JMO
