It will sound contradictory, but while I love college sports, I don't really believe universities should be in the business of sports.

Now, this is a perfect-world, will-never-happen scenario. You know it, and I know it. But to me, universities should focus on teaching and learning.

Sports is a whole other animal, and I think the professional sports leagues should be in the business of developing its own talent. If you want to play, you can sign up for the system at an early age and focus your energy on becoming the best athlete you can be. No need to do a sideshow to keep up appearances regarding academics. And you get paid while you are part of the system.

Academics doesn't need to be slowing down sports, and sports doesn't need to be taxing universities.

But the system we have is what we have. I just wish it was different, that's all.

I generally agree with what you're saying, and I'm a bigger college sports fan than a pro sports fan, as well.
