She painted one of her own granddaughter too and its freaking perfect. She absolutely nailed her face. She really is a talented painter.

She had whole thing done except for face. Came home from christmas party somewhere (involving a bottle of wine) and said, I need to finish that

Did she paint yours using reference photos? I'm a bit of a hobby painter (very novice). Portrait drawing (something I've not attempted) is said to be best done with a live reference, or a nice collection of photos with different angles, lighting, etc. and preferably with no over-expression (like a big smile, which is what younger kids tend to do in photos).

She knows her granddaughter's face pretty well I assume, but all it takes it one small alteration or too much/little emphasis on a single facial feature to screw it up.

If the painting is dried and varnished, I'd store it out of sight but in a dry place, protected so it'll look nice if you ever need to hang it for an evening.
