It's like River Ranch compared to Port Barre. I still can't figure out how that town continues to exist.

You should go checkout nearby Washington. Absolutely charming little burg just north of there.

If you want vibe, though, you can do no better than to swing by Grand Coteau and visit the grounds of Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat Center and the neighboring Church and seminary. You'll be glad you did!

Ps don't miss the 19th century graveyard for Jesuit Priests. Worth the trip in itself!

spent a lot time there during the summers as a kid. As a teen, the girls were very "friendly".
