How short of a leash should kickers have in the NFL?

I say it should be 3 strikes (misses) you are out. Maybe that even is too generous
You are not being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to miss kicks. It is your job to make kicks, regardless of distance and situation and weather and wind. It is your profession. Therefore you should be spending 8 hours minimum every day practicing kicking so you do not miss.
Same should apply to college. 3 missed kicks and you lose your scholarship.
It's not fair to the position players who are fighting and battling and risking injury just to see all they worked for down the drain because of a missed field goal.
Gould is going to single-handedly lose this game for the Bears because he missed a field goal. Think of all the other kickers who single handedly lost their teams games because of missed FG.

How many missed putts should golfers get? How many missed free throws should basketball players get? How many double faults should tennis players get?
Just practice for 8 hours so you don't miss! So easy and obvious!

Bears just lost.
Gould single handedly lost them the game. 100% of the blame goes to him.
Yet he will still keep his job. That is wrong. It's not fair to the rest of the Bears position players who battled all game long.
The 3 strike rule shouldn't apply if you single handedly miss a kick that causes your team to lose. Miss a kick that loses your team a game, immediately released.

Gould is one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history. If they replace him, it would be with an inferior player. Should quarterbacks be cut after three interceptions?

Gould has one job - make kicks. That's it.

You've clearly never tried kicking a fg over 45 yards. It's hard as hell. Fgs over 50 yards even the best kickers on the planet miss then 40% of the time

But it is fair to lose off a WR dropping a sure TD or a QB throwing a pick 6?
Maybe they should have worked a little harder to get it into the endzone so it didnt come down to a long arse FG ehh?
and at saying a kicker single loses games all by themself. Son you sound like a jack off anchor who has never played team sport.
Also, are you going to post a whiny arse piss and moan thread about this every week now?

What? Have you ever played football? No blame goes to the defense for allowing 26 points? No blame goes to the rest of the team with 80 yards worth of penalties? No blame to Cutler for an int? No one player is ever 100% to blame for losing a football game. There is always a plethora of plays not made in a game that causes a team to lose. The timing of the plays doesn't matter.

Half the kickers in the league this year would have lost their job if that were the standard. (eta: and that number is undoubtedly going to be higher by year's end) A much larger percentage in College would have lost their scholarship.
I have an idea in a similar vein. How short of a leash should QB's have? I think that a QB who throws more than 8 interceptions should be outright released. Your job is to complete passes to your team. You are not being paid to complete passes to the other team. It is your profession. Therefore you should be spending 8 hours minimum every day practising passing to your team so you do not pass to your opponent.

What if the laces weren't out? Then it comes down to the holder and his one job.

So a kicker should be fired if the head coach decides to trot his FG kicker out to the field for a 50 yard FG against the wind in a rainstorm?

If the stats are right then Dan Bailey has the highest field goal percentage of any kicker, past or present, at 90.604%.
He's missed 14 kicks
But yea let's kick that mfer off the team...
Meanwhile Drew Brees has the highest pass completion percentage of any passer, past or present, at 66.3%
He's missed 2,653 passes.

So you cut him and sign a dude off the street?
And then he signs with another team?
That doesn't make any sense at all and would hurt the Bears more than it helps.

Are you by any chance a bama fan with nightmares of 9-6 or kick six?
Posted on 12/6/15 at 4:02 pm to accnodefense
So every qb should have only 3 incomplete passes a game?
Posted on 12/6/15 at 4:03 pm to accnodefense
They had plays like every football team where they were one missed block away from a TD. Or one missed tackle away from preventing a TD. Lots of folks need to get cut
