60 pound lab mix. Gave him a rawhide bone and he was chewing on the remaining piece (about 1 1/2 or so in length) and all the sudden it disappeared and he started whimpering.

I looked down his mouth and didnt see anything, and when I touched his neck he whined. This lasted maybe a minute. Now he's acting completely fine, and when I rub along his neck he doesn't mind it.

My concern is intestinal blockage. Will something like a rawhide be digested in time normally? What should I be on the lookout for as far as symptoms go?

And yes, I am aware that the cops will come handle the issue for me but I'd rather he live.

If he got it down, he should be fine.

If there is a blockage, he will quit eating.

Call your vet and watch the dog. They don't really digest it so pay attention and see if it's having trouble going to the bathroom. It will eventually dissolve but too large a piece could cause problems.

I feel fairly confident in stating that your 4 legged carnivore should be able to handle a small piece of animal skin with no issues whatsoever.
