One of many reasons "money isn't an issue" is that the amount paid to Les will probably be closer to $7.5 million than it is $15 million. LSU can play super hardball and not date his termination til 1/1/16 if they want. That reduces the buyout to $12.9 million right there, so that's the ceiling on Les.
On top of that, his buyout is reduced by any money he earns after he is terminated - coaching, ESPN, selling Grit door to door, anything. He also has to use "best efforts" to get other employment. So if he takes the UCF job at $1.2 million per, LSU can take that off of the buyout amount.
Or if he doesn't, LSU can argue that he could have earned as a coach or commentator, and simply take a credit of, say, $1 million a year on the assumption that he'd have earned that if he'd really used "best efforts." If Les doesn't like that, he can sue LSU in state court in Baton Rouge, likely in front of a judge who's an LSU fan.
All this assumes no negotiation takes place at all on a "gentleman's agreement." If that happens we go down, but if not, a truly "full" buyout could very easily be as low as $8.9 million, paid out in 96 monthly installments over 8 years.

That's not feasible. We couldn't sign Jimbo on 1/1 for recruiting reasons. Nor could we sign Jimbo now and fire Les a month later and argue in good faith.

All that just to let everyone know that you have no idea what you're talking about.
