It's not a fighter. It has some defensive weaponry. But it was never designed or intended for air to air combat. It was designed as an attack aircraft very much like the American F-111.

Attack aircraft =/= fighter aricraft

Then he should not be surprised that an F-16 shot down an Su-24. It was designed from the ground up to shoot down aircraft like the Su-24.

I'm referring to the fact that it's a very watered down version

Aim-9

"When it absolutely, positively, must be brought down with one shot."

;)

Now if it had been a SU-35 that would have impressed me. But a 24 ? Hell, the Turks could have splashed that with one of the F-104's they probably still fly at Incirlik. LOL

Thanks to whoever it was that posted the NPR story on how ISIS sells oil.

Someone is buying it, it's financing their wars.

Exactly. The Su-24 is a 60's era aircraft that was never intended for air to air combat to begin with. It would have been a bigger story had the Turks not been able to shoot it down with an F-16.

The F-16 is flown by many states in the Gulf region, and other allied (or at least friendly) nations, such as Taiwan. It is one of the most updated multirole combat aircraft in history.

"We have long been recording the movement of a large amount of oil and petroleum products to Turkey from Isis-occupied territories. This explains the significant funding the terrorists are receiving. Now they are stabbing us in the back by hitting our planes that are fighting terrorism. This is happening despite the agreement we have signed with our American partners to prevent air incidents, and, as you know, Turkey is among those who are supposed to be fighting terrorism within the American coalition."

"If Isis is making so much money – we are talking about tens or maybe even hundreds of millions, possibly billions of dollars – in oil trade and they are supported by the armed forces of an entire state, it is clear why they are being so daring and impudent, why they are killing people in such gruesome ways, why they are committing terrorist attacks all over the world, including in the heart of Europe."

If what he is saying is in fact true, then frick Turkey.

frick Turkey if it is or isn't. Turkey is the Capitol of Islam and all of Islam are terrorist. If you don't believe that you are to lazy to read the Koran and history books.

FYI Turkey invaded Greek air space 1,029 times since 2013.

I could be mistaken, but I want to say that Turkey has one helluva military. If it was just Turkey and Russia one-on-one it probably wouldn't be pretty for Putin and friends.

The Turks are paper tigers compared to what Russia could put into the field, excluding NATO coming to their aid of course.

You could combine Turkey's military with all of European NATO and Russia would still be far more powerful than all of them combined. Without the U.S., NATO is the paper tiger.

You could argue that when it comes to an offensive military, Russia is a paper tiger.
