For example, Cameron's father in Ferris Bueller or the Emperor in the original Star Wars. Who did you envision in your mind's eye for key parts.

Does Howard's mom in The Big Bang Theory count? She is heard, but rarely, if ever, seen. Immediately came to my mind.

Cameron didn't have a father, he was simply a figure of Cam's schizophrenic psychosis.

Alex (Kevin Costner) in The Big Chill

Nah - Cameron's father is real - Ferris and Sloan aren't. They're Cam's imaginary friends he uses to cope with his highly abusive father and largely absent mother.

No, Ferris was real. The psychosis was brought on by Cameron's conflicting feelings both for Sloan and homosexual attraction towards Ferris himself. This simultaneous status as the 3rd wheel in two relationships which were both taboo and unattainable combined with the lack of a father figure in his life caused the psychotic break.

Then what would be the purpose of Ferris's sister and her battle with Principle Rooney? Are they all imaginary as well? Your story's full of holes.

Jeannie is real - but she's Cam's sister.

No. The school folks are real. Ferris and Sloan aren't (maybe Sloan is - but the Sloan in the film isn't - she may be a girl that Cam is crushing on, but would never date a loser like him - thus his creation: "Ferris Bueller, you're my hero.")
Think about all the shite Ferris gets away with. It is pure fantasy. Look at his room. None of the story makes sense if it is literal. Ferris is a senior, but doesn't have a car? But his sister does?
No. Cam is a senior and Jeannie is (most likely) a junior. Cam fantasizes about all this stuff that he projects onto Ferris, but is reluctant to do. Skip school without consequence. Alter his absence records by hacking. A room CHOCK FULL of high end electronics (Carver ). Joyriding in Cam's father's Ferrari.
Come on man.

I always picture Bob Sacamano looking like Mr. Feeny

But how does Charlie Sheen fit into all of this? And maybe all the craziness has to do with Cameron being a 30 year old pretending to be a high school kid.

I always saw Bob Sacamano as a Gary Busey type.

Charlie Sheen is Cameron's dealer for anti-psychotic meds.
Rooney is actually a mentally handicapped student.
Cameron is the principle.

I picture Nanny from Muppet Babies looking like Betty White.

For a couple of seasons, T. Tommy Reed on Designing Women. Anthony told stories of the fearsome inmate, who was paradoxically brutally violent, yet obsessed with etiquette and dancing.
They did finally cast the character (M.C. Gainey) and he made a couple of episode appearances.

I always figured Maris Crane as a Lara Flynn Boyle-type. Anorexic with the look of zero-to-bitch in 5 seconds. After Niles started dating Mel I pictured her instead, but that's not a big change.

Charlie from Charlie's angels.

Vera Peterson
Dr. Claw.
Kathy Kinney would probably fit the bill for both.
