so its minor fracture in the pinkie knuckle aka boxer break

Today's DR of course said the hand specialist I'm seeing tomorrow is going to suggest surgery I assume to re-align.

Is this really worth it over a sort of common fracture of the pinkie knuckle?

I had swelling for over 2 weeks and finally broke down and went to the orthopedic (former LSU OL Chris Rich, BTW) - he laughed and said, "You got lucky on this one - this is a rare example of a break that can't really hurt you." Splinted it for about an hour and it was fixed.

So, shake it off, Nancy.

I had a boxer's break on my right pinky knuckle. Ortho xrayed it and said there's nothing that can be done, and my right pinky's now shorter than the left when you hold them up together. Consequence of being stupid and punching shite when mad.

If you have insurance, go see a doctor dude. Get it checked out. It is better to be safe than sorry.

As someone whose broken their fingers multiple times, I'll say this. Last time I was getting x rayed for something, I had them go ahead and x Ray my hand. They found multiple breaks and said some of the breaks had t grown back correctly and there might be issued later on. They said there really wasn't anything they could do.

And miss out on pain killers? Seems kinda dumb unless you're uninsured.

I can tell you that yes it will. Knuckles heal themselves pretty well. Two of mine healed by themselves after breaking them into two pieces

X-ray costs like $75, but they'll just put you in a finger splint. You can do the same and save the $1000 and hour at the doctor

You can go anywhere with an X-ray machine, and they'll all tell you the same thing. Get a splint and tape it up

I've broken most of my fingers and if it's not disjointed, it will be fine. Just give it time and it will heal.

Broke my left pinkie tackling someone at the last football practice before the first game of my freshman year in h.s. Finger got caught in a fishnet jersey and broke below the larger knuckle. Got taken to the doctor because it had to be set. They put a metal splint that wrapped around the knuckle on my hand for stability. I played the whole season with a hand pad and some tape over it. Had to go get it reset every week.

Broke the little toe on my right foot the first Monday morning after I turned 40. Stubbed it on the back of the door to my bathroom. Had been living there for six years. Figured, this must be what life after forty is like. I was right. Have fun while you're young boys & girls.
