Imagine Andrew Whitworth at center, bc that's what we have now

And it's indicative of a problem. Whit as a 3rd yr player would've also been put on skates by A'Shawn & Co. Pocic is a great O-lineman, but is out of position. He's playing center bc there's no better option, and that's on Miles' inability to be a complete recruiter. Yes, I said it.
There's more to recruiting than omelettes & closing w/Mom. You have to evaluate the roster & identify needs. Brick & Chief get a lot of hate for leaving the front 7 bare, & rightfully so. But it's ultimately on the HC. The LBs outside of two starters are atrocious.
He has never made center a priority, just sticks anyone in there, just another spot on the line, right? Wrong.
So the biggest roadblock is Bama & their defense right? What's the key for that, a big arse nose tackle. And Saban knows it. He's willing to look anywhere for that player. He targets that position bc he knows it crucial to his defense. Why Miles doesn't scour the country in search of a center is beyond me. I'm talking about the prototypical center, 6-3/6-4 w/the stout body type. I realize there are a few 6-7 centers in the league, but it's not the norm.
During Miles' tenure, the O-line, specifically center, has been underwhelming & serviceable. That's the only way I can put it. He can hide them but eventually will get exposed.
So who's the center next year? Pocic will leave or play OT, hopefully. Whoever it is will have no game time experience & we back to square one. Dodd appears soft, Clapp might be option. I'm sure just throw whoever out there & it will be fine. Sorry for the long post, just little frustrating.

A lot of good insight here.

Pocic is going to be an all American at center but yeah he's not any good. You know a lot more about olineman than the coaches.

Don't hate on Pocic. He will do fine against any other D. We as a unit match up well with most lines except for Bama. Our main issue on offense is not being able to attack with a complete passing game. That is on having an incomplete QB (but one who has improved and can become complete) and WRs with the dropsies.
A stable and more complete passing game and Can would call a different game and stick with the passing. CLM over rides him and goes conservative once one thing goes wrong. Fault CLM for his paranoia and post 2008 syndrome.

You're going to catch a lot of shite, but the O-line has been underwhelming for years now.
dstone said it best: Did we get beat because of depth? Did we get beat because of scheme? Who cares? They both fall on the head coach.
People act like it's only Les Miles' job to give badass pregame speeches.

could have had dillon day but i believe something behind the scenes ruined that opportunity. other people around here know more than i do on that aspect. regardles of his actions in the game last year, dude was a hell of a player and would have been a solid 3-4 year starter at center over elliot porter and whatever else we had.

Pocic performed better at left guard than at center last year. This year, he has done a good job at center before this last game, but he does seem to be out of postion.

Kelley from bama had Beckwith on skates the entire night to the point on one play he drove him 30 yards down the field.

We just need to execute more with the current scheme, until we get the right players.

You're right that the center/nose guard matchup was key in destroying LSU's line. However, it was not lost because we had an inadequate center; it was lost because they have a beast at nose.
I was in awe of his performance up this point, but when he jumped completely over our line I could only laugh. You can't hope to match up with that guy. When faced with a player like that you have to compensate by beating the piss out of some other poor sap on their team.

You mean Ethan Pocic? The mid year All American center?
Horrible recruiting job.... sometimes I read this shite and wonder what fricking dimension I'm in

Barrett Jones was a 1st Team unanimous All-American Left Tackle and Nick Saban moved him to Center as a Senior.
Shut the hell up.
Shut the hell up.

This post explains at least a little what the hell happened to our offensive line Saturday.
Many reporters asked Miles and other O linemen what was the problem and everyone was tight lipped and gave no answers.
This truth has me worried about Ole Miss with their 6''5" 300 lb nose guard who is quicker and faster than some SEC running backs.
And Miles only says we have to execute better?

You mean the same Andrew Whitworth who starts for the 8-0 Cincinnati Bengals?
