quote:correct. They had to fight like the dickens to barely pull out a win over a very weak Michigan. I remember pulling for Michigan because I didn't want that weak BYU winning a title.
6-5 Michigan (but also from memory). Worst national champion in history. As I remember Michigan was 6-6 after the defeat.

It is and always will be the damn screen play to the RB out of the backfield... We have lost several games to Bama because of that play and I for one am glad Chevis is gone for that alone.
I can't tell you how many times I have literally called the play before the snap and it results in a crucial 1st down or leads to the play before the eventual TD.
I will be judging Steele on how he deals with this play because I feel once we stop the run, defend O.J. Howard stoutly, Bama has nothing else going for themselves but to run that damn screen play 8-10 times in the game.
Defend the screen game and u win, that simple.... And I'm not speaking hyperbole.

They also like to run the legal for them pick at the goal line. They have used it in more than one game without a penalty.

I totally agree with you that the screen play has been a key play call to beat LSU. That being said, it seems Bama isn't running near as many screens this year. Way more jet sweeps, which makes me want to bang my head through a wall.

You have to agree with my statement because it's true... at least Steel knows Bama tendencies and schematics so he knows Saban's philosophy as to when it might be called during a series.
Bama receivers are not scary this year that's why it's so much Howard for them in the passing game. Just looking at Bama offense as whole, they are nowhere near offenses in recent past and Coker is no McCarron nor McElroy. I think Neal gets to him early and forces him to start watching the line instead of downfield. Coker will be indecisive on a number of plays because of the perceived pressure.
LSU just needs to play sound man coverage on Bama's receivers which should not be hard. I know people think Ridley is a threat but he's no Cooper or Jones. Saban knows he will have to do things differently this year because he just doesn't have that outside target that will move the chains on talent alone.
I'm confident if we just stay discipline in our approach, with no busted coverages that LSU will be fine. Have a safety spy on Howard in coverage on key 3rd downs and watch for the screen game between the 20's and Bama will have a hard time moving the ball because I don't think the running game will be enough this year. Saban doesn't have the offensive line he is accustomed to in years past.

I just truly believe that not having Chevis will be instrumental throughout this game because Saban can't rely on knowing what is coming.
Our D-line is significantly better than last 3-4 years and we can get pressure with just rushing 4. That will be important because our linebackers don't have to continually blitz to get a semblance of pressure like in the past, to where when Saban would call the screen, no one was keying on the RB and it was a given 20 or more yards.
This year Debo is playing lights out in coverage and if he can defend Howard one on one in coverage and not get beat for jump balls due to Howard's height then it forces Saban to go to his receivers which our DB'S should easily handle.
Truth be told, I just see LSU having a dominant defensive performance this year, but as always it will be close because Les will play it conservative with a lead, allowing Bama to stay in it on special teams or with a fluke drive on phantom penalties.

OJ Howard across the middle is going to keep a few of their drives alive. Hopefully Mills comes ready to lay the wood or pick a ball.
