my 14 yo niece had hers confiscated for 2 weeks for repeated violations. It was incredible motivation for her to follow the rules.

Those responses are fine, but being a retired public school teacher, I can tell you that if you attempt to confiscate one then all hell breaks loose.

I work in education kinda sorta, and a school recently had a teacher confiscate a phone, lose it, and then lie about losing it.
I agree with confiscating it until a parent comes and gets it.. I don't agree with the rule my school had which was to confiscate it and keep it for the remainder of the school year. They ended up having to bend to all the parents raising hell, rightfully so since they're stuck paying a monthly bill on the thing.
