My wife shows me at least once a week people we somewhat know or are acquainted with trying to raise huge sums of money. Few days ago she showed me a kid asking for a huge amount trying to pay off his student loan. I'm sure he knew what he was getting into right? And today it was a young couple that attends her church asking for almost 25k to adopt two babies. Is this kind of shite normal?

There are more avenues now for people to ask.

Why spend your own money when you can get other people to pay for your stuff?

Since it's popular they don't feel the proper amount of shame.

Absolutely unacceptable. My parents would have considered disowning me if I ever did such a thing. That's his responsibility.

I guess kind of ok in a way because it's sort of charity, but there would be a whole host of other details I would need to know before donating to something like this in good conscience.

Dude I just saw my niece share something on Facebook where a couple set up a gofundme to adopt kids. Do we know the same people? Either way it's fricking stupid. Don't adopt kids if you can't afford it.

Because people are stupid enough to give it to them.

I had a cousin last year that started a gofundme or one of those similar sites to try and raise money so she could move to Alaska.

Her goal was $50,000. People ended up blasting her online, so she finally canceled it. I think she got $45.

If the couple that wants to adopt a kid can't come up with 25K they don't need to be adopting kids.

Don't get me started on the bucket kids on Earhart and Carrollton.

Wonderful parents sitting in a chair texting while their young kids wander in and out of traffic on both sides of the thoroughfare.
