What level are you on now? I'm on level 34.
I was 114.

My supply lines and settlements were a bit of a mess so I decided to try again. Also thought I might go a different way with the main story but the more I think about it, I just can't side with The Institute or The BOS.

Might not even touch the main story much. Just enough to get the perk armor from the railroad. Holy crap that makes such a huge difference.

Question about X6-86: Does anyone know if you lose him as a follower by joining another faction? This is the first time I've used him and his Wiki page basically doesn't answer the question coherently.

I don't remember him following me except on one quest, then I thought he stayed behind. I could be wrong. I don't remember dismissing him and being given an option on where to send him. Maybe I did.

He later rejoined me for another quest where I think I blew his head off.

I received a random message saying he was an available companion (long after the synth abduction quest). I recall having to Google where to find him and for me, it was a random spot in the Wasteland.

After about 50 hours of dicking around, I finally beat the main story line with the Minutemen. I'm currently at Level 38 and starting to really play around with settlements. I'm running in to some roadblocks on construction materials.

Copper
Oil
Ceramic

Any tips on collecting these items?

Copper

Is just a bitch. I'm pretty much permanently low on copper... which is why I think Bethesda is going to be making settlement power lines not take copper in the next big patch.

Oil

Is also fairly a bitch.. but pick up in any all bones you can. You can use those to make cutting fluid at the chem station. I also ALWAYS pick up any source of oil that I find. Even if it means dropping any other valuable items, except for items that give copper.

Ceramic

Ceramic's not too bad. I rarely have problems gathering that. Look in kitchens, restaurants, and cafeterias for plates that give ceramic. Ash trays on desks are a big source of ceramic for me.

I've read the stories of people becoming useless after playing this game. That one guy trying to sue Bethesda because he quit going to work and got fired. And his wife left him. I played before I went to work this morning and I will when I get off. I see it's all true.

I believe there is a perk that you can use when collecting guns/armor and you can scrap those some of that material(copper aluminium, etc).

I would also unlock the scrapping perk that lets you get copper from breaking down guns.

Copper is easy with the scrapping perk. low level pipe guns tend to have copper so with this perk, you pretty much never worry about copper.

Oil. You have to make cutting fluid and even then, it is always a hassle. Bones are going to be the tough component. You just have to do a ton of minutemen quests and hope for super mutants since they tend to have bones around them.

Ceramic is easy. Always pick up vases, ashtrays plates.

I assume this is just the full release of the beta patch.

Claims they fixed the settlement status bugs, but I still get bad numbers in the Pip boy for settlements.

I'll have to remember to pick these up then. I had been bypassing them because it didn't seem like they were worth the weight to carry back and scrap. Seems I've been missing out.

I initially didn't worry about picking up cheap guns. Then I ran out of steel. At that point I started picking up all guns all of the time.

I think I finished my first play through level 114 with 20k steel. Wood is my problem this play through.

Carla has oil shipments of 25 units you can buy pretty regularly. Also buy all her junk and set up an advanced store in all settlements to buy all the junk there that has copper, oil or whatever you need.
