Too much of a downer ending in terms of it being a legit threat?

The ending is quite uplifting, I thought. No, my biggest problem with the film is that its not scary. Like, not even a little bit. It's a horror movie made for people who don't like horror movies but want a movie title than drop into conversation to show off their sophisticated taste.

Also, the sound mixing on that movie was clearly done by a person who was unable to hear the soundtrack he was mixing. Just an incompetently done botch job, and for a technical genre like horror, incompetent technique is a death blow (Low production values is no problem, incompetence is a big one).

I felt the same way. I thought the whole thing went over my head or something because of how well received it was so I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels negatively about it. I also feel the same way about The Conjuring. I thought it was a well made movie but it was not an effective horror movie imo. The only people I know that liked it were people that typically don't watch horror movies.
