thanks for all the recs fellas. I pretty much had my mind made up that I want the SR1911, sounds like it is a good choice.
any of you have experience with both the 5" and the 4.25" and have preferences either way?

The 4.25" will have slightly better balance since it has less weight at the muzzle. But then again, it has more felt recoil since it weighs less. There's a tradeoff for everything.
If it's your first 1911, I would lean towards a 5". It's just the classic style and is supposed to be the most reliable since it was the original design.
