I'm a big fan of springfield myself. Cabelas has the springfield mil-spec for $799.
I use to want the ruger SR1911, but a buddy of mine who use to work for a local gun shop was told me that the though the ruger sr1911 isn't a bad choice at all, it feels a bit loose, and to go ahead and spend just a little bit more on a springfield, that it just feels more tight and crisp like a 1911 should.
So now I'm currently saving for a springfield 1911 range officer champion.
