Every time I go to a fast-food restaurant, particularly after 10 at night, the shake machine is always broken. Without fail. So what's the deal, are they actually prone to breaking down, or are the people just too lazy to make a milkshake?

You shouldn't be eating ice cream that late anyway, fatass.

I don't think anyone there is smart enough to take the machine apart to clean it.

My BIL worked at McD's in HS. He told me that "the machine is down" is code for "nobody wants to clean it".

Apparently it has a timer and a cleaning cycle that is automated and manually cleaning the thing for one shake is just too much of a hassle.

Because they have to clean it before they can go home for the night. So when they've already cleaned it and fatasses like the OP come around asking for a milkshake, they can either:

A. Make him his super special milkshake and then clean the machine again
B. Tell him it's broken and not GAF about his shake
C. Tell him he doesn't want to clean it again, which 9/10 people will throw a shitfit about.

At McDonald's, the machines supposedly clean themselves, and shut off for a certain amount of time when they do. The employees are only supposed to clean them once a week

This.

McD’s was my first job in HS. You knew your manager hated you when you got the close shift and had to break down the damn shake machine. It would take 2 hours & you had to clean everything, piece by piece, down to the rubber gaskets. Then you had to place all the parts into a tray that had little spaces made just for each individual part…down to those damn gaskets. I remember dozing off in class and having nightmares about the shake machines.

I have found its 50/50 that they work around lunch time...a company as big as McDonalds should have more reliable machines. Also the last few excuses I got were "we are out of chocolate...would you like vanilla or strawberry"...how the frick do you run out when the machine is always broken

You want a shake? Then skip the McD's and head on over to Baskin Robbins.

Ask for Randall. He'll take care of you.

I'm sure sometimes they are just being lazy.

However, I worked at a Sonic my freshman year of college and those machines are incredibly unreliable. We had someone in there at least once, if not twice a month doing maintenance on both machines.

No, they have pre-closed it so they don't have to do it after closing time.

The ice cream frosty and shake machines are mysteriously never "broken" in North Dakota or suburban WI and MN.

Only in New Orleans or Chicago propers from my experience.

The illumaniti doesn't allow it. If you consume any shakes in the late hours at night you mind is free of the satellites that control your mind
