12 ga with full choke will serve you best when it's as dry as it is now. Hunt with #6 shot.
Get to your area a few minutes before shooting time in the morning and find a tree to rest against while you wait for the squirrels to come out of their nest. Once the sun has fully risen, walk quietly through the woods and either shoot or creep up and shoot any squirrel you see. If they see you first and run away, don't worry there are millions. Keep walking! The only time you should not be walking is if you find a "feed" tree where many of them are congregating to eat. Hickory trees are great for this. Stop and stay at that tree.
I usually hunt until 9:30 and then go back out just before dark and hunt for a couple hours then as well.

And sit down. If it's windy find some smaller trees.
