20 can serve you quite well.
Action is USUALLY best early on but it's not a set rule.

12 ga with full choke will serve you best when it's as dry as it is now. Hunt with #6 shot.
Get to your area a few minutes before shooting time in the morning and find a tree to rest against while you wait for the squirrels to come out of their nest. Once the sun has fully risen, walk quietly through the woods and either shoot or creep up and shoot any squirrel you see. If they see you first and run away, don't worry there are millions. Keep walking! The only time you should not be walking is if you find a "feed" tree where many of them are congregating to eat. Hickory trees are great for this. Stop and stay at that tree.
I usually hunt until 9:30 and then go back out just before dark and hunt for a couple hours then as well.

Full choke 20ga with 6 shot. Shoot them in the head.

Not a bad idea to gut them as soon as you kill them if you hit them in the guts or it's a warm day. Squirrel guts get nasty.

I use a 20 gauge and like to hunt them early in the morning. I will hunt them sometimes in the evening if I'm not popping tops and cooking squirrel jambalaya.

Am I the only one who grew up doing it with a 22? Haven't been in probably 15 years

They really love nuts.... like crazy about the fricken things. What you need to do is go to your local costume shop and find you a Planter's Peanut costume (top hat and cane included). Some squirrels are very brand specific and if you don't wear the full costume they may get confused. Throw that bad boy on and get to killing. As far as time goes I think they are very easy to get ahold of if you wish to set up an appointment.
