I think the D is closer to being salvaged than the offense at this point.

The defense has had its share of bad moments, but they've kept us in both games. I don't even count that last TD that Arizona scored. Take that away and the defense has given up 25 points a game. And keep in mind they have been put in some bad situations because of the offense. With the offense we are all accustomed to, we easily score 28-30 a game.

Lewis and Ellerbe returning can only help, but any defense lives and dies by the pass rush. As long as Cam is our only legitimate source of pass rushing, it will be hard to expect much improvement. Kikaha has shown some flashes, but it's tough to ask him to become a big time player this early in his career.

Hopefully with a year under their belts next year, Kikaha, Anthony, and Davison can become the future of the defense along with Cam, Lewis, and Vaccaro.

A safety who was cut is now our starter.
A rookie at #3 CB
A young canadian player at #1 CB
A guy not on our team last year at #2 CB
A rookie at MLB
A rookie at OLB
A rookie at DT
A guy most don't know is on the team may start at DE

Gee...what could be going on?

Our defense is unhealthy for the most part, and we still have little to no pass rush, but our defense is still fine. The offense is the one with the issues. Having too many turnovers, having more field goals than touchdowns, and having an increase in 3 and outs are huge issues for the offense, which have been going on a lot of last year too.

"We'll be fine"

remember that worn out phrase from Jim Haslett?

...but i actually do believe it on defense. We'll only get better as long as we get healthier.

now the offense on the other hand....

If we stay healthy, this defense will get better as the season progresses. Anthony, Breaux, Swann, and Kikaha will get better. Our problem is finding a coverage LBer (Ellerbe if he can ever get healthy), and finding a legit CB to pair with Browner (Westbank if he can get healthy). Jenkins has played really well in the middle, and Richardson has done a pretty damn good job when in there. Our problem is health and youth.
