So last night I was splicing wires on my trailer, and left my good pocket sitting on the back tire (jeep wrangler) once I drove off to pull said trailer. I won that knife at a raffle years ago, and have since forgotten what brand it was. What are some of the better pocket knives out there that hold an edge and are assisted open?

I use CRKTs as they are very robust for the price. The steel doesnt hold its edge as well as others though. I would say get a benchmade mini griptillian or barrage if you want to spend a bit more.

Kershaws are well know for their assisted opening knives. I like Benchmades with Axis locks, can flick them open with no effort and you can close them one-handed without putting your fingers in the path of the blade.

Get a Spyderco. I had an assisted open kershaw chive. I do not miss the assisted open since having that big hole. It's almost as fast and closes easier.

I would recommend the Spyderco Delica FFG. I have the Native 5 FFG and it is amazing.

Benchmade mini grip is also amazing. They are very smooth opening.

I've got a buck (110?) it's a good knife, but I feel like I have to sharpen it more than my kershaw. I just like how the buck fits in my pocket though

Case Trapper with the 6254SS blades. Best knife made.

I have Spydercos, Benchmades, Emersons and Al Mar knives. Plus some kershaws, bucks, SOGs and the like.

Obviously it varies by model, but I reach for any of the first four almost interchangeably. Sometimes I'll grab the Emerson for heavier tasks because it's such a beast.

The Benchmade mini grip may be the most recommended EDC knife, and for good reason. It's just exceedingly reliable and nice to use.

Benchmade axis are bulletproof and about as heirloom as a production knife can be - although they are pricey at the better steel levels. I can't go back after using 154 cm - only equal or better steel for a heavy duty knife.

But, for a quality, everyday knife that you aren't afraid to lose, Gerber is probably the starting point - I think their assisted opening is called F.A.S.T. Spyderco and Kershaw are good as well, and you can find them at reasonable prices - generally a little more expensive than Gerber.
