As in growing them inside over the winter (i.e. "hot house" tomatoes)? You should be able to start them most any time if you have a well ventilated greenhouse.

If you mean starting plants for transplant in the spring, probably 2 - 4 weeks before you plan to put them out.

Had hoped to grow fresh maters in the winter.... And have a greenhouse w vent/heater/irrigation system ready to go...
