Got a friend of mine that's gonna be traveling through the state on his way to Tuscaloosa, will be hitting the Baton Rouge area around lunch time but wants to avoid the Friday traffic around campus and would rather bypass that part of town.
Any recs for the eastern side of Baton Rouge, and/or Hammond/Northshore? Something hole in the wall-ish preferred.
I told his silly arse to either stop in Layette or ride through New Orleans for some R&O's or something along those lines, but no dice.

Get off the interstate in Covington and grab a poboy from Bears. Probably a ten minute drive north from Covington/Madisonville exit.

Mariner's in Hammond, Cate Street Seafood in Hammond, and Middendorf's in Manchac are all good.

New Orleans Seafood and Spirits in Covington.
The muffaletta at Bosco's on hwy 59 is tasty and huge.
Bear's is horribly overrated roast beef. That gravy is watery and the meat is flavorless.
